How to change the default browser on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14

Apple made a big change in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, allowing third-party browsers and email apps to be used as default apps, meaning those who don’t want to use Safari or the default Mail app. Apple may choose an alternative solution and it will be opened automatically whenever required by the system.

For a browser app to become the default browser on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, developers have to update their apps. All browsers are still required to use WebKit (an open source Apple application framework that provides the components needed to build a web browser) as a browsing tool.

Currently, only a few browsers below support set as the default browser:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Firefox
  • DuckDuckGo

In this tutorial, I will guide you to make Google Chrome your default browser (other browsers do the same) And every time you open sitelinks in another app, Chrome is automatically opened instead of Safari.

Change default browser on iPhone, iPad

first. Download the latest version of Google Chrome apps from the App Store or if you have downloaded it before.

2. Open the app Setting up.

3. Scroll down and select Chrome.

4. Click Default browser application (Default Browser App).

5. Choose Chrome.

That’s it, from now on when you click on any link in any application, the operating system will open Chrome instead of Safari as before.

If you want to go back to using Safari, you can reopen the Settings app and change your preferences Default browser application (Default Browser App) back to Safari.

With iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, Apple has been more open-minded when it has allowed third-party browsers to be set as default browsers, something few thought Apple would do before. What do you think about this issue? Have you changed your default browser after going to iOS 14? Or will you still use Safari? Please share in the comments below.
