With the purpose of expanding the development space for the Vietnamese national domain name ".vn", on December 8, 2021, the Ministry of Information and Communications issued Circular No. 21/2021/TT-BTTTT (Circular 21) amending , supplementing a number of articles of Circular 24/2015/TT – BTTTT dated August 18, 2015 regulating the management and use of Internet resources, effective from February 7, 2022. In the content of Circular 2021, there are amendments to the regulations on the life cycle of .VN domain names as follows:
– Old regulations: The .VN domain name will be suspended after 5 days from the expiration date. After 35 days from the expiration date, the domain name cannot be renewed and will be deleted within the next 20 days.
– New regulation: .VN domain name will be suspended immediately after expiration. After 25 days from the expiration date, the domain name cannot be renewed and will be deleted within the next 15 days.
Thus, in the new regulations, the time allowed to renew domain names after expiration has been shortened to only 25 days from the expiration date. And the domain name will be suspended immediately after expiration.
Circular 21 takes effect from February 7, 2022. Domain names with an expiration date before February 7, 2022 will still apply under the old Regulations. For domain names with expiration date from 7/2/2022 onwards, new regulations in Circular 21 will apply.
